Based on  Occupational Standard (OS)



The Program is designed to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude of the learners to the standard required of the occupation. The contents of this program are  in  line with the Occupational  Standard  (OS).  Learners  who successfully completed the Program will be qualified to work as comprehensive nursing provider with competencies elaborated in the respective OS. Graduates of the Program will have the required qualification to work  in the Health sector in the field of comprehensive nursing care. The prime objective of this  training program  is  to equip the learners  with the identified competences specified in the OS. Graduates are therefore expected to Provide Maternal and child health care ,provide care  in the pre/post  and intra operative nursing ,implement and monitor nursing care for clients with acute health problem perform nursing process ,administer and monitor medications in the work environment  patients,apply principles  of  woundmanagement  and assist  in advanced procedures, make referrals  to other  health care  professionals  when appropriate , practice legal and ethical parameters towards nursing care , manage workplace OHS management system , deliver and monitor a service to ustomers, promote innovation and change ,  contribute to organizational  effectiveness  in  the health industry ,migrate to new technology ,  manage and maintain small/medium business operations, establish quality standards, develop teams and individuals in accordance with the performance criteria described in the OS.

Duration of the TVET-Program

The Program will  have a total  duration of  1505 hours  in  school  and on the job
practice or cooperative training of which  320  hours (Internship) for nursing practice
after completion of all modules at selected Hospitals.
Qualification Level and Certification
Based on the descriptors elaborated on the Ethiopian National TVET Qualification
Framework (NTQF) the qualification of this specific TVET Program is  ³Level IV´.
The learner can exit after successfully completing the modules in one level and will
be awarded the equivalent institutional certificate on the level completed. The learner
will not be awarded any certificate before completion of all the modules in Health
sector training

Target Groups

Any citizen who meets  the entry requirements  under  items  1.7 and physically
capable  of  participating in  the learning activities  is  entitled to take part in  the


The prospective participants of this program are required to possess the minimum
requirements or directives of the Ministry of Education.

Mode of Delivery

This TVET-Program is characterized as a formal program on middle level technical
skills.  The mode of delivery is  co-operative training.
The TVET-institution and
identified companies have forged an agreement  to co-operate with regard  to
implementation of this program.  The time spent by the trainees in the industry will give them enough exposure  to the actual  world of work  and enable  them to get
hands-on experience.
The co-operative approach will be supported with lecture-discussion, simulation and actual practice.  These modalities will be utilized before the trainees are exposed to the health industry.
